Answer in brief

This privacy policy explains what the site measures. It is a static site with no accounts and no forms. It uses Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and see which pages and links readers use. It does not use advertising features, and it never sends names, email addresses or anything you type except library search words.

What this privacy policy covers

The policy covers this reference site and nothing else. The site is made of static pages built ahead of time. There are no accounts, no sign-in and no forms, so the site never asks you for personal information.

Analytics: what is measured

The site uses Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, both operated by Google. They record:

  • Pages viewed, how far down a page you scroll, and the page you came from (the referrer), including campaign tags in the link that brought you here.
  • General device and location information that Google derives, such as browser type, screen size and approximate city or country.
  • Clicks on links to the Canteris website, on links between pages of this site, and on links to other sites.
  • Which questions you open in a "Questions & answers" section.
  • Words you search for in the library. Searches that look like an email address, a phone number or a web address are dropped before anything is sent.

Nothing else you type is sent. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Advertising features are switched off: the site tells Google not to use advertising cookies or to use the data for ad personalization.

Cookies and your choices

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) to tell one visit from another. They can last up to two years. The site sets no other cookies.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics cookies are off by default. In that case Google receives only limited signals without cookies.

You can block analytics with your browser's privacy settings or a content blocker, or install Google's official opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same either way.

Questions & answers

Does this site use cookies?

Only the Google Analytics cookies described above, and only where analytics cookies are allowed by default. There are no advertising cookies.

Is my library search sent to Google?

The words you search for are sent to Google Analytics so the publisher can see what readers look for. Searches that look like an email address, phone number or web address are dropped first.

Can I opt out of analytics?

Yes. Block it in your browser or with a content blocker, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on. Every page works without analytics.

What do the UTM parameters on Canteris links do?

They tell the Canteris website that a visitor arrived from this reference. They are added only to links that point to the Canteris website.
